"Sworn to silence" by Mrs. Alex. McVeigh Miller is a novel written in the late 19th century. As he brings flowers and reads to calm her, the household next door descends into panic: searches spread, her mother falls ill, and the town is gripped by the mystery. A visiting physician, Dr. Anthony, then tells Aline’s sister Effie how a masked stranger abducted him to a grand house to treat a beautiful, unconscious girl who matches Aline’s description, deepening the sense that the truth lies very near yet out of reach.
